The story of the Red Flag: We get our name from the first Oklahoma state flag which flew from 1911-1924 (there was no official state flag from 1907-1911).

The flag was changed during the post-WWI paranoia era because of the flag's association with Socialism. We think this is a crying shame because Oklahoma's agrarian-socialist history is not shameful but rather one of our state's finest hours.

Red Flag Press Sales Tax Information

Thanks to the rather complicated Oklahoma tax laws, here is how we figure sales taxes.

The prices you see on the website are the total amount you will pay, but the actual "price" will vary depending on where the order was made from. . .

For orders placed from outside of Oklahoma, there is no sales tax charged and the price of the product is the amount shown on the website.

For orders placed inside of Oklahoma, the price of the product is the amount listed on the website minus the applicable sales tax rate.

Here are some examples of how this might work. Let's say a t-shirt is ordered on our website that is listed at $17.25

  • If the person who made the order is located out-of-state (and delivery of the order is to an out-of-state location), then no sales tax would be charged and the full-price would be $17.25.

  • If a person in Tulsa ordered the shirt, the total amount paid by the customer would be $17.25. Out of this $17.25, the price of the shirt would be $15.90 and the sales tax paid would be $1.35 (3% city tax, 1.017% county tax, and 4.5% state tax, for a total tax of 8.517%)

  • If a person in rural XXX county (outside the city limits of any town) ordered a shirt, the total amount paid by the customer would be $17.25. Out of this $17.25, the price of the shirt would be $16.51 and the sales tax paid would be $0.74 (4.5% state sales tax only, as there is no city tax outside of the city limits and this county does not charge a county sales tax).

(If you are curious what your locality's tax rate is, check out the Oklahoma Tax Commission's website.)

Also, if you buy a shirt from us at a public event or festival, then you will be charged the sales tax rate of the location of the event.

We know this is as crazy as all get-out (and is a big hassle for us to calculate each month), but we want to keep it as simple as possible on the buyer's end.
